This film portrays a family's attempt to change the patriarch's hedonistic ways by fooling him into thinking his large fortune is gone. They assume a life of poverty in Mexico in an attempt to teach him a lesson. However, he discovers it's a ruse.

Quintin discovers his wife’s (Tona) infidelity and abandons her. She reveals that Lencho, their daughter, is the result of her adultery. Embittered, he asks both of them to leave. Many years later, Maria convinces Quintin that she lied about his paternity and tells him to look for his daughter.

A story of a retired couple, Caireles and Tarrajs, who are unable to accept the change. They get drunk and plan to steal the 133 Tram where they worked all their lives. During the night, they give service to an eclectic group of people. As they try to retain the tram the next morning, the authorities stop them from doing so.

In the XX Century Mexico, a humble priest Nazarín shares his misery with the needy that live near the small town of Chanfa. After protecting a prostitute responsible for starting the fire that destroys the hostel, Nazarín is forced to flee the town and his actions cause a series of conflicts that go against his vision of Christian charity.
